Fresh air for the kids!

I took the kids up to Castle Rock today to get some southern air in their lungs. They had a ball, did well and were completely exhausted at the end of it all.

I thought I’d see how fit Jack was on the way back so I put a rock in his backpack (about 10kg) and he walked back to the truck. It was a practice for me taking him tramping. Good lad though, he toughed it back and earned a chocolate bar!

Rounded off the day with a picnic dinner in a chair tent they made on the lawn. Totally loved hanging with the kids today. They were fantastic!

Day at the Derby!

When we saw an ad in the paper for a ‘Combine Harvester Demolition Derby’ we just had to go!! It was just a great day out with the kids. They totally loved it!

A little pruning!

After the 130kph winds last night we woke to a little bit of pruning work. After spending the day helping mates, we got off pretty lightly! Just another adventure!

Good one Jack!

This is what happens when you ask Jack to go and stack the toilet paper in the loo. Well I guess it’s one way to do it! The leaning tower of loo paper!

Sarah’s Amazing Broccoli!

Check out this massive broccoli Sarah grew! I think she’s been sneaking it the fertilizer when I’m not looking! Huge eh!

The hairy brothers!

My brother Simon came down to visit recently and was sporting a fairly decent beard. I was pretty impressed so had to try to match it. Below is the comparison… Not sure who won.

He has the better beard but I have the better mo… Time for a shave!

The Stones–World famous in West Melton ;-)

The Press paid us a visit as it appears our home is one of the first to be rebuilt in CHCH after the Earthquake. Click the pic below to read the article.

Awesome Fiordland Trip!

I was lucky and blessed enough to be given the opportunity to go tramping with Gavin and some old mates on the Milford Track in Fiordland in Jan.

I went with Gavin, Darren, Gareth, Leigh, Simon and Annette. Awesome bunch of people who have all played a part in my life at some point. It was a great trip, and although the legs are a little sore, I’m glad I made the effort. Looking forward to another trip again in the near future!

It just drove home to me that life is too short to pass up opportunities and we need to get out there and experience things while we can!

Here’s some pics!

Earthquake Clippings

Check out the chart below. So far we’ve been in 388 earthquakes! Man! It would be an understatement to say we’ve been shaken, not stirred!

If you look below, We live where the white arrow is. That’s how close we are to the fault line. Crazy stuff!

The new pump shed nearly complete!

A bit of painting to do and we’ll sort a garden around it, but the pump shed is almost done, and most importantly – we have water!

17mm treated ply bolted to the old steel tank tower frame. Was a bugger cutting ply to skewed trapezoid shapes! Should be nice and solid. Just the edge strips and door left to do.

Here’s the new pump and filter. The white cylinder is a 20 micron particulate filter I added to remove most of the sediment. The Aquifer is still a little dirty and if the sediment gets to the house it ruins the ceramics and fittings.

The new system is high pressure (we had low) but when connected, a number of joints leaked (below ground too…). They couldn’t handle the load  😉 So there’s been a good number of small leaks we’ve needed to fix.

The end result though is that we now have a 13,650 litre storage tank and high pressure house supply with awesome tap and shower pressure!

A few loose ends to tidy but should be all finished by next week!
